I had been passively aware of the keto diet for years before I decided to take the plunge and try it for myself. Besides the cognitive dissonance of challenging literally everything I believed to be true about nutrition at the time, I found it a little overwhelming trying to figure out what was allowed and what was off limits on the keto diet. I knew that meat was generally ok, but I was skeptical of whether or not I would be ok with ditching the carb-loaded sides that I had grown accustomed to.

Is Keto Sustainable on Vacation?

The thought of traveling when you're just starting out on keto can be kind of intimidating. The keto diet is easiest (and best) to do as a primarily whole foods based diet. That means that you're primarily dealing with real food and not food products. The downside? Real food has a shelf life. Real food needs to be refrigerated, frozen, or cooked before enjoying.

That said, it's totally possible to still have a fulfilling social life, take a trip and relax and still stay true to your keto commitment. You just have to plan ahead.
