My Father's Day Wish: A Father's Day Love Letter to My Son

June 17, 2018 by Scott Arrieta in Family

I remember so vividly the day I became a father.

When we held hands for the very first time, and I felt your tiny grip on my finger, my soul was crushed by the weight of my love for you.

I didn’t know then exactly what it meant to be a father, but I think I’ve figured it out some over the years.

I’ve made some mistakes. And over the years, I know I’ll make many more. But I hope that in spite of all my imperfection you will never doubt the unchangeable truth that I love you.

I have so many dreams for you, son. I want you to find your passion. I want you to live your life unencumbered by the worries of what you should do and instead, I want you to live every day reveling in the possibilities of what you could do.

I want you to find out what you were put on this earth to do, and then, I want you to do it.

I want you to know that you have superpowers beyond imagination. That you were created for a purpose and that the world is counting on you to live out that purpose.

I want you to be kind to people. To be kind to yourself.

Stay curious. Decide what you believe carefully. Seek out new experiences and perspectives.

Stand up for what is right, but in your zeal, take care not to lose sight of the humanity of those who would oppose you.

I hope you to find help when you need it and be of help to whoever you can. But most of all, I hope that you find people in your life who you can love as much as I love you.

Every day, you'll slowly grow into the man you’re meant to be, and every day I will thank God every day for the privilege of being your Dad.
