A Full Day of Eating Keto: Father and Son Edition
I had been passively aware of the keto diet for years before I decided to take the plunge and try it for myself. Besides the cognitive dissonance of challenging literally everything I believed to be true about nutrition at the time, I found it a little overwhelming trying to figure out what was allowed and what was off limits on the keto diet. I knew that meat was generally ok, but I was skeptical of whether or not I would be ok with ditching the carb-loaded sides that I had grown accustomed to.
Additionally, every time I heard keto mentioned for weight loss, it was almost invariable coupled with word I dreaded the mere sound of - fasting. So many of the keto weight success loss stories I heard about incorporated some form intermittent fasting into the weight loss regimen. Frankly, I wasn't sure if I was interested under those circumstances.
Fast forward to today. I've replaced those starchy sides I used to love with leafy greens, butter-drenched cruciferous veggies and yummy fermented foods like pickles and kimchi . Far from being a burden - intermittent fasting is surprisingly easy for me. And I love the way I feel when I'm fasted!
Overall, my body is just so much happier and healthier on the keto diet. I can think more clearly. I feel fewer aches and creaks when I get out of bed in the morning. And for the first time in my life, I'm in control of my food instead of the other way around.
And the absolute best part? This journey has brought me closer to my family. I'm so grateful for this opportunity to bond with my son and daughter and share knowledge with them that will help to enhance their lives. If I have one regret about keto it's that I didn't pull the trigger earlier. My kids will benefit from having this knowledge early on, and they'll have happier, more abundant lives because of it.
