Grocery Hauls
I take a trip to Whole Foods 365 to pick up some ingredients for Monica's special keto birthday dinner. It's a surf and turf theme complete with a very special keto dessert.
Since we moved to Austin, we don't make it to Trader Joe's as often as we used to. Between Whole Foods, Costco, H-mart and HEB (our amazing local grocery store) we've got most of our keto needs covered. But sometimes it's nice to get a change of scenery and browse some of the things that TJ's has to offer.
I had been passively aware of the keto diet for years before I decided to take the plunge and try it for myself. Besides the cognitive dissonance of challenging literally everything I believed to be true about nutrition at the time, I found it a little overwhelming trying to figure out what was allowed and what was off limits on the keto diet. I knew that meat was generally ok, but I was skeptical of whether or not I would be ok with ditching the carb-loaded sides that I had grown accustomed to.
We were super excited with the awesome stuff we found at the Texas Farmer's Market at Lakeline Mall in Austin, Texas! So many great keto finds! H-Mart is a Korean grocery store that opened up in town recently. We found some unique cuts of meat (pork hocks and American Wagyu beef!) tons of different kinds of kimchi and some amazing produce. Amazing fun filled day with the family!
We love doing groceries to show people who are thinking about starting the keto diet what we eat as a family. Ever since our family started the ketogenic diet, we've become a lot more discerning about what food we pick up at the grocery store. Here's some of our favorites from our two most frequented stores - Costco and Whole Foods.
Scott takes his parents to the best asian food store they've ever been to: H-Mart. We pick up some ingredients to make some delicious Filipino dishes (kare kare, carne norte and lechon!). Scott's mom schools us on the right way to make kare kare and challenges Scott to a cook off. And Nana and Pops buy Ellie her first bicycle!
