My Heaviest Weight Ever | Week 1 (2016) Weight Loss Update
On May 9, 2016 — I hit a new high.
Or a new low, depending on how you want to look at it.
I stepped on scale and stared in horror at the number flashing back at me.
387.6 pounds.
That number freaked me out, and I started doing everything I could to get back on track.
By Monday, May 16, I was down to 385 pounds.
Two days later, I'm now at 383.6 pounds and tracking toward another decent week.
One of the things that I think will be a really big game changer for me this time is that I've actually mapped out my goals and have put a time limit on it so I'm not leaving things so open-ended.
I set a stretch goal of losing a total of 200 pounds by first quarter of 2018. I've mapped this out day to day, and my forecast actually has me hitting that weight on January 9, 2018.
That's a little less than two years to shed the weight, which I think is challenging, but achievable.
It's not Biggest Loser pace, but it's also not meant to be. I could do a whole separate post on that, actually. But for now, let's just say I'm looking for long term success not short term gratification.
I've also started to track my calories on MyFtinessPal again.
Tracking calories can be a pain at time, but it's the only way I've found to make me conscious of what I'm putting in my body.
I also love the budgeting aspect of it. While most people hate to budget, the great thing about budgeting is that you have the freedom to allocate your budget however you'd like. For example, last week I had chicken wings (probably one of my favorite foods) without any guilt because I knew I had saved the calories and I could "afford" it. And guess what? I posted a loss the next day.
Finally, I'm on the hunt for a new fitness tracker to help keep me on course.
I'm currently wearing the Fitbit Blaze, and testing it to see how I like it.
Now, if you've been following Project Reboot for any length of time, you know that I'm a Jawbone guy, so moving over to Fitbit might seem a little sacrilegious.
I will maintain that Jawbone has by far the best app in the market which is a significant part of the total user experience. They just do a much better job at making your data actionable and understandable.
Fitbit, by contrast, just kind of throws your data up there for you and hopes that you'll somehow make sense of how to use that data to make meaningful changes in your life. As a business guy contextless data is one of my biggest pet peeves, but I'm seeing if I can live with it because:
- I'm hoping that Fitbit will get their act together one day and figure out how to create a better app experience and
- Jawbone just doesn't have anything as full featured as the Blaze in their line up yet. (Get on it, guys!)
I'll do a more robust review on the Blaze a little later on, but for now you can add me on Fitbit (see the username in my video) or join me on My Fitness Pal (username ProjectRebootScott).
Finally, I'll leave you with some "before" pictures:
It was super hard for me to look at these pictures.
When I envision myself in my mind, this is not the person I see.
I'll be spending the next two years getting the picture in my mind and the person on the outside to match up.
Here's to the "after" pics.
