Week 1 Weight Loss Update
This post is a little bit late, because I lost the original footage that I shot! Find out how I did during the first week of my weight loss journey.

Hey guys.
So, right off the bat I’ll acknowledge that this video is SUPER late!
Sorry about that! It was a crazy week at work and even though I did record a weight loss update on Monday as promised, I didn’t have any time to edit it, and when I did sit down to edit it this morning, I realized that had forgot to press record in between takes, so I was missing about half the video!
Anyway, I decided I’d record a quick update for you right now with my weight loss progress as of Monday, March 9th, just to keep the continuity going.
So last week I went from 381.4 pounds to 376.8 pounds for a total loss of 4.6 pounds.
Now I know that’s nothing compared to the huge numbers that you’re probably used to seeing on the Biggest Loser or Extreme Makeover Weight Loss Edition.
But I’m putting it in the win column because what I’m trying to do here is achieve a life of balance. I’m not really looking to run at this really hard for a month or two and then fall off the bandwagon again.
Another reason that I’m pretty happy with the results is because it marks 2 weeks of consecutive weight loss for me. And the amount I lost this week is about 50% more than the weight I lost in the previous 7 day period.
So, let me spare you all the math. Two weeks I weighed in at 384.4 pounds - my highest recorded weight ever.
After the end of week 1, I weighed in at 381.4 for a total of 3 pounds lost.
And this Monday, which is technically the end of week 2, I weighed in at 376.8 for a loss of 4.6 pounds for the week and 7.6 pounds lost overall.
Now, I’ve been tracking my weight loss progress every day for a few months, and you can see that prior to this recent 2 week stint, the weekends were a huge problem area for me. I’d do a pretty good job shedding a few pounds during the week, but then during the weekend I would gain everything back and sometimes with interest.
So this week, I really tried to be super conscious of that and made some efforts to really watch my intake on the weekend.
Now, I think I could have done better last week because I did have a little bit of a hiccup on Friday. Friday was just a really tough day for me at work, it was the end of a really long week and so I poured myself a couple of drinks and had a larger meal which I don’t typically do and ended up gaining 2 pounds over night.
So I had to compensate by being really moderate on my flex day so that I could end the week by posting a net loss.
Now, one of the things I want to do every week is recenter on my game plan for the week ahead given the results achieved in the previous week. So I want to talk about the things that I’m going to start doing differently next week, the things I’m going to stop doing, and then the things that I’m going to continue doing moving forward.
At my office, they provide snacks and lunch every day, but the options they provide aren’t always the best ones. More than a couple of times this week I found myself munching on potato chips or something just to keep myself from eating my hand in the middle of the day. Also, we get to order our own meals twice a week on the company’s dime and I don’t always order the healthiest thing on the menu. So I think the biggest thing I’m going to start doing next week is I’m going to start packing a paleo snack for work everyday and order paleo friendly meals for lunch.
In terms of things I’m going to stop doing, I’m just going to stop drinking altogether. I can never seem to lose weight consistently when I drink, even if it’s just a glass of wine, so I’m going to cut it out for a bit and see how I do.
And one thing I implemented last week that I’m planning on continuing into this week is having dinner really earlier. And by really early, I mean at like 3 in the afternoon. I’ve been bringing some protein powder to work with me and drinking it before I leave the office so I’m going to bed on an empty stomach. I know there are various schools of thought about this, but I find that it really helps me to log some significant weight loss, and it also helps me establish better boundaries since I’m more likely to overeat when I’m home for some reason.
So, that’s the weight loss update for last week. I’ll post a video on Monday to let you guys know how it went this week!
